Tom Taylor, 85, was a life-long resident of Marion and graduated from Harding High School in 1957. He
married Patricia Fogle in 1958, and they shared 45 years together until her death in 2003. Tom was a
Veteran, and served in the Army National Guard from 1962-1967. He retired from Whirlpool
Corporation after serving as a foreman for many years on the dryer lines and in labor pool.
Those who knew Tom know him to be a kind a caring soul. He acquired many friends through
Whirlpool, Ridgedale Lions Club, the American Legion, and the Moose. Tom could always be counted on
to share a funny story and make those around him feel better. Tom could often be found fishing,
golfing, bowling and visiting friends, but his favorite activities included being with his grandchildren and
watching them participate in sports and activities. Back in the day, he was often seen with a camera
hanging around his neck so that he could use a press pass to take pictures of athletic events at
Ridgedale.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Elizabeth Taylor. He was the last surviving sibling
in a family of 9. His brothers who have passed are Chuck, Francis, Ralph, Bill, Bob and Raymond Taylor.
His sisters who have passed are Ethel Laird and Virginia Schauweker.
Tom is survived by his children and their families. Karen and Vyron Todd Turner live in Marion, and their
children are Clinton (Jaimie) Turner of Lexington, KY; Dr. Shelbi (Eli) Dean of Clyde, OH; and Mason
Turner of Marion. Lena and Chuck Harris also live in Marion. Her children are Michael Gower of Marion
and Megan (Micah) Dedrick of Ft. Bragg, NC. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Legacy Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation
Center and to Capitol City Hospice. The people associated with both of these facilities went above and
beyond to make sure Tom’s last days were peaceful. Words cannot express our gratitude to all of you.
A celebration of life will be held Friday, July 7, 2023 at noon at American Legion Post 162 on Bellefontaine Avenue, with an honor guard ceremony at 1:30.
