Shirley Ellen “Granny” Partlow Heaven gained another angel when Shirley E (Stewart) Partlow, age 83 of Marengo, Ohio passed away in comfort and peace on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at 11:57 p.m. surrounded by loved ones at Marion General Hospital. Mom suffered a short time from a terminal illness and decided that she was ready to go to her heavenly home. Losing her son, Larry, on August 14, 2021, broke her heart. In Harlem Township, Delaware County, Ohio on November 1, 1937, she was the 7th of 8 children born to Carl and Doris (Saunders) Stewart. Raised on the family farm, her childhood was very memorable to her. One of her favorite memories was her dad taking her and her younger sister Marjorie to Taylor General Store in Center Village and buying them candy. Carl’s sense of humor was passed on to her as she often spoke in “Momisms” like “How did you sleep?” She replied, “with my eyes closed!” and “How do you feel?” and she replied “with my fingers”! Always a funny story to tell or a joke to share. She was a graduate of Big Walnut High School Class of 1955 and worked as a telephone operator until she married Oliver D “Pete” Partlow on October 22, 1960 in Fulton, Ohio in the kitchen of the family home. They were ready to start a family and someone had to stay home and raise that family. Deciding together that she would be the homemaker and he would be the breadwinner, they moved in with Grandpa Issac Partlow to help care for him as he was a widow. What a great set of parents to have! Together, they raised 5 children in Fulton, OH as some may refer to as Mayberry. Hundreds of people literally have been on that front porch whether it be to sit and talk, relax, play games, camp out, drink coffee and gather our thoughts after the daylight passed. We had more than most as kids and may not have realized it, being loved and cared for beyond measure. Our house was the place to be and where most kids hung out! Mom was always home when we came home from school, with however many friends following to get a snack or to eat a great meal that she prepared. We sat at the kitchen table to eat our meals as a family and share stories of our day. Mom was a great cook and loved to make homemade bread, noodles, biscuits and gravy, fried chicken and pot roast. She taught a lot of people how to cook and most recently was able to teach great grandchildren Isaac and Shaelin how to make cinnamon rolls. Nobody was ever turned away from food. Mom made sure that we ate and got full before she ate. Caring, generous and kind are great words to describe her. Being raised by awesome parents herself, her siblings were close and cherished by her. They visited each other often, therefore giving the cousins great opportunities to spend precious time together and build fabulous memories. We are grateful for that. Mom loved baseball in the 1970’s with Pete Rose and Johnny Bench being two of her favorites on The Big Red Machine Cincinnati Reds. She supported her kids and grandkids in everything we were involved in and was our biggest cheerleader. She played piano by ear and also with her hands, (lol), and in her younger years loved to sing in church with her sisters. Throughout her life, gospel music delighted her. Before losing her eyesight she would color and complete word search puzzles, read westerns and pioneer novels and mysteries. Dr. Phil, Jeopardy! And Wheel of Fortune were her favorite TV shows along with Price Is Right, Let’s Make A Deal and COPS!!! Purple was her favorite color and she loved receiving costume jewelry from her grandchildren. She recently had regained some vision and was able to see herself in the mirror again for the last month of her life as well as enjoy seeing loved ones faces after 10 years of fading vision. Her and Larry attended Musicians Against Childhood Cancer Bluegrass Festival in July of 2021. Being able to see the musicians made her happy. Larry loved to play banjo as did our dad, and mom loved to listen! She got to watch AND listen to him play, not knowing it would be their last time together on earth. After caring for dad until he passed in 1995, she focused even more on her kids and grandkids, loving and caring for them. She had numerous loved ones who referred to her as mom or granny even though they shared no bloodlines, she loved them the same. Some of them have shown her how much she meant to them by providing her with vacations, shopping trips, dinners and words of appreciation. Our “extended family” is huge!! Mom had lots of love, care and support from so many who love her and we thank all of you for that! Shirley is greatly missed by her family including her oldest daughter Melanie Sultanov (Rakhim), of Marengo, OH. Her second daughter Teresa Fox of Marengo, OH and her daughter DeLaney (Christian Starlin) Snyder and their child Oliver. Daughter in law Sheila Partlow of South Carolina and son Jamie (Rebekah) Snider and their children Grayson and Brady, son Kevin (Mariah) Partlow and their children Anneliese and Amaya, and daughter McKayla Partlow. Her third daughter Deanna Partlow, who also resides in Marengo, OH and her children Spenser (Sarena) Partlow and their children Isaac and Shaelin, daughter Ellyn (Jason) Lynch, son Harley Partlow. Her youngest daughter Victoria Babbert (Bill Davidson) of Columbus, OH, and sons Matthew (Michelle) Bolin and Jason (Josephine Coulter) Clark and their son Jensen Clark. Special daughter Jill Evans (Clair) of Florida and their children Cody (Brittany Abeledo) Evans and Cheyenne (Charlie Olivera) Evans. Step-daughter in law Pat Partlow of Mt Gilead, OH and her daughter Teresa (Josh) Vickers. Bonus grandchildren include Tina (Joe) Morris of Hilliard, OH and Haley (Devon Bartlett) Foltz of Mt Gilead, OH. Numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews all of whom were adored by her have precious memories and stories to tell. Her brother Jim Stewart (Marie) of Galena, Ohio and sister Marjorie Jacob of Covington, KY are her only surviving siblings. She was proceeded in death by her parents Carl and Doris, husband Pete, son Larry, step-son Donald E “Gene” Partlow, siblings Helen (Gerald) Dixon, Robert Stewart, Julia Mae Stewart, Ruth (John) O’Bryan, and Marlene Hannah. She had so many special friends and loved ones pass before her and many more left to cherish her memory.
