Sharlena Marie Greer (nee Shelton, Murden), age 45, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025. She is survived by her loving husband, Scott Greer, mother-in-law Sandra Greer, sister-in-law Teresa McSwain, and nephew Kenny Greer, and her beloved daughter, Claire Miller, of whom she was so proud. She is also survived by her birth family, Edward and Frances Shelton, siblings Ed, William, Makaylin, Crystal, and Angel Shelton, and Aunts Carol, Regina, and Marina; her adoptive family, Isla Price Murden, Bob Murden, and siblings Robbie, Nick, and Chelsea Murden, cousins Derek and Erik Price and preceded in death by uncle Russell Price. She is mourned by her many longtime friends in the Deaf Community and friends and neighbors in Marion and Columbus, Ohio. Sharlena regretted not getting to say goodbye to her beloved dog, Milo.
Sharlena faced many challenges in her life, beginning with her birth at only 6 months gestation due to her parent’s motorcycle accident causing her premature birth and hearing loss. She was a fighter and survivor, suffering years of abuse and was placed in the foster care system. At the age of 15 she was adopted by the Murden family of Worthington, OH. Sharlena navigated both Deaf and Hearing cultures, attending The Ohio School for the Deaf in middle school and part of high school, and then choosing to attend and graduate from Thomas Worthington High School.
The family would like to thank Amy Miller and Charlie Miller for being caring and protective parents and doing such a wonderful job of raising Sharlena’s daughter, Claire. The family would also like to thank the ICU nurses and staff, especially Brennan, at Marion General Hospital for their vigilant care and compassion for Sharlena and Scott in her final days.
A memorial service will take place in March with details to follow on this site and on Scott, Sharlena, and Isla’s Facebook pages.
