Raymond E Slemmons

March 31, 1933 — September 1, 2023

PROSPECT- Raymond E, “Gene” Slemmons, 90 of Prospect, died Friday
September 1, 2023 in Delaware, at the Ohio Living Sarah Moore Center
from complications of a stroke.
Gene was born on March 31, 1933 in Richwood, Ohio to the late Pearl
and Ray Slemmons. He graduated from Richwood High School in 1951,
and during that time he worked alongside his father, who was a gifted
mechanic. Gene developed his own gifted ability “to fix anything.” His
mechanical ability paid off when he served in the Korean War as a
helicopter mechanic and he bought his dream farm north of Prospect
and farmed for over 30 years.
He also worked at Whirlpool Corporation for over 40 years, working in
Supervisory and management positions, including Quality Control and
Purchasing retiring in 1993.
When he started his career at Whirlpool, he met and married Betty
Christman in 1958, and were married 66 years, enjoying their three
daughters, life on the farm and then in Prospect.
After retirement, Gene served the Veterans Administration driving
veterans to their doctor’s appointments for 9 years.
Anyone who knew Gene were drawn to his kind, loving and charismatic
personality; always giving, always serving family, friends, and neighbors
humbly and unselfishly. He will especially be remembered for his gifted
storytelling ability and the thousands of jokes ready for telling!

Having a zest for life, he found enjoyment in many past times. He loved
music, was an avid hunter and gun enthusiast, loved to read, and had a
passion for antique cars. However, one of his greatest passions was
taking care of his yard. Gene was truly an extraordinary man who led
an extraordinary life and will truly be missed.
Gene is survived by wife Betty, three daughters: Lori (Matt), Kentucky;
Amy (Todd), Nashville; Beth (Dave) , South Carolina; 12 Grandchildren,
9 great Grandchildren, Brother Lynn (Helen), and proceeded in death by
Kathryn (Bruce), Morse, Glen (Vonnie) Slemmons, Dale Slemmons and
many nephews and nieces who knew and loved him.
