Mary Anna Crabtree, 92 of Marion, Ohio, passed away August 11, 2024, surrounded by family. She was born February 9, 1932, to George Wagner and Mary (Rupley) Wagner of Bippus, IN.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, three siblings, an infant daughter, and her husband. Mary is survived by her son David (Robin) Crabtree, daughter Ila (Dwayne) Moodespaugh, granddaughters Tracy Crabtree and Katelin Crabtree, great-grandsons Roman, Reign and Rory. She is also survived by Wendy Crabtree, Leslie (Rigsby) Carey of Georgia, Virginia, Cindy, Christine, Carol, Hank, Luke and Asa of Indiana.
Mary graduated from Bippus High School in 1950. One sunny afternoon in 1952, in Huntington, Indiana, Mary met WWII Army Veteran Clarence Crabtree from southern Ohio. They fell in love and were married in October of that year. It wasn’t long until they moved to Oregon and later returned to Ohio and remained there.
Mary was employed at Sycon Corp. for many years and later at Eastlawn Manor as a nursing assistant. She loved the work that she did there. She wrote a column each month “Crabbie’s Corner,” for the Manor’s newsletter and was named employee of the month on a few occasions. She was a positive, caring, and nurturing soul with a heart for serving and encouraging others.
Mary found joy in flower gardening, cooking, playing cards (ruthlessly), reading, and if you knew her, you were surely told the occasional ornery joke. Mary had many friends of all ages. Kids in her neighborhood liked to hang out with her and called her Miss Mary. Much time was spent on her front porch visiting, telling stories, playing cards, and enjoying life.
This kind soul will be greatly missed by so many. RIP Mom. A celebration of life will be held indoors, 4-7 p.m., Saturday, August 24, at the Anselment Memorial Park, 5824 Caledonia Mud Pike, Caledonia, Ohio. Burial will be in the Caledonia Cemetery at a later date.
In remembrance of Mary Anna (Wagner) Crabtree, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the “Marion Technical College Foundation”. The donations will provide scholarship support for second-year RN students. Checks can be mailed to the MTC Foundation at 1467 Mt. Vernon Ave., Marion, OH, 43302.
