Karen Lee Uplinger, 75 of Marion passed away on Friday April 22, 2016 at Marion General Hospital. Karen was born August 23, 1940 in Marion to the late James Edward Kunkle and Loah Louise (Richie) Kunkle who survives in Marion. She was formerly married to Vernon Richard Uplinger who survives in Oklahoma.
Karen is also survived by children Marilyn (John) Larkin of Marion and Vernon “Rick” (Patricia) Uplinger of Mansfield; 9 grandchildren, Margaret, John, Tina, Katie, Briana, Grace, Bobby Jo, Faith, and Samantha; 1 great grandchild Aris; brother David (Margie) Saunders, FL; sisters Judith (John) Cheydleur, NY; Virginia VanBrunt, SC; and Deborah (Paul) Cranford of SC; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Karen was a Salvation Army Officer and following graduation from Marion Harding H.S. in 1958, she went to the Salvation Army School for Officer Training for 2 years. She had worked at the Salvation Army Women’s Center in Columbus. She lived most of her life in Ohio and also had worked at the Kable Fulfillment, Eastlawn Manor, and at the Raymert Press in CA.
In addition to Karen being a member of the Salvation Army in Marion, she loved to crochet, knit, do jigsaw puzzles, read, and collect owls, butterflys, and bells.
There are no formal public services scheduled. The family suggests that memorials be made in the form of contributions to the Salvation Army, 317 W. Church St., Marion.
