Joyce(Joy) A Middleton

February 7, 1947 — April 8, 2017

Joyce (Joy) A. Middleton, 70 of Bucyrus, Ohio passed away on Saturday April 8, 2017 at her home in Bucyrus. Joyce was born February 7, 1947 in Bucyrus to the late Curtis Moore and Nellie Mae (Dalton) Cansler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband Thomas Middleton Sr.; brother Ronald Cansler; special nephew Fredrick Howard; and aunts and uncles Mabel Malone, Charles Dalton, Carl Dalton, Jessie Dalton, Julie Dalton, and Alma Dalton.


Joy is survived by daughter Lona L. (Shawn) Jackson of Marion; four grandchildren Alex, Isaiah, Zion, and Joshua; one sister: Pearl Howard of Mansfield; special great nephew: Jamario Fuller of Columbus; special nephew: Steven Cansler of Mansfield; special friend and aunt: Mary Dalton of Bucyrus; aunts Edith Williams of Fort Worth TX and Betty (Ron) Simmons of Tacoma WA; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and special God daughters.


Joy last worked at Turning Point in Marion. She worked for nearly 20 years at General Electric in Bucyrus and then continued her education, receiving a bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University in Social Work. Joyce graduated from Bucyrus H.S. in 1965 and OSU in June 9, 1989. She had attended Calvary Baptist Church in Bucyrus under the leadership of the late Pastor J. Howard Jones until 1984. She later was a member of Mayes Community Temple COGIC until 1999 under the leadership of the Late Pastor John W. Mayes. She also attended Greater Saint John/Oasis of Love COGIC under the leadership of Pastor Walter Jordan, Jr.

Joy was involved in ministry for many years. She was the Youth Director, Adult Sunday School teacher, and Prayer and Bible band teacher of Mayes Community Temple COGIC. Her greatest accomplishment was using her gift of evangelism and gift of helps. She was blessed to touch many lives throughout her lifetime.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am in the Mayes Community Temple, 801 Bennett St., Marion with Pastor Shawn L. Jackson officiating, burial will follow in Marion Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Temple from 10:00 am until the time of the service. The family suggests that memorials be made in the form of contributions to the Mayes Community Temple.
