Joyce Baumgartner

Joyce A. Baumgartner, age 87, peacefully went to be with the Lord on April 9, 2025, after a battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Joyce was born to the late Ralph and Mildred Snyder on April 29, 1937, in Marion, Ohio. In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her son, Kent E. Baumgartner.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jon J. Baumgartner of Marion; daughter, Kara (Baumgartner) Ross of Findlay, and sons Keith (Jen) Baumgartner of Bluffton and Kurt Baumgartner of Marion. Joyce’s light will shine on through her beloved grandchildren, Zane (Emma Weber-Ross) Ross of Boardman; Caleb (Miranda DeLaRosa) Baumgartner of Pandora; Colton (John Wynn) Ross of Toledo; Cora (Austin) Kindle of Lima; Whitley and Lydia Baumgartner of Marion; and her great-grandson, Augustino Baumgartner. Joyce is also survived by her sister Hope (Snyder) Perry of Findlay; sister-in-law Joan (Baumgartner) Fogle, and nieces Susan (Jeff) Krouse, Kathy (Dave) Yokum, and nephew Michael (Lara) Fogle, along with many great-nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joyce graduated from Harding High School class of 1955. After graduation, Joyce attended Ashland College for a short time while working at Kresge’s Department Store and at the Telephone Company before marrying Jon J. Baumgartner. After marrying in 1965, Joyce became a housewife and mother. If she wasn’t canning food, cutting coupons, and grocery shopping every Thursday morning, she was cleaning or helping to care for her aging mother and mother-in-law. Joyce was a Sunday School teacher, President of the Women of Emanuel Lutheran Church, a member of many bible studies, and volunteered on numerous committees. Joyce was always willing to prepare funeral meals, visit shut-ins, and help her friends and neighbors. Family and friends meant everything to Joyce, and she enjoyed spending time with family, whether traveling to the family cottage at Lake Erie every summer or hosting the Snyder Reunion at her home. Joyce loved baking cookies with her grandchildren.

Joyce’s “Celebration of Life” will take place: Sunday, May 4 at 1:00-4:00 pm. Emanuel Lutheran Church. 241 S. Prospect St. Marion, OH 43302.
