James Michael Mason Jr., a cherished father, brother, and friend, passed away on July 4th, 2024, after a two-year battle with cancer. Born on August 11, 1962, in Marion, Ohio, to Ruby Lee and James Michael Mason Sr., James spent his entire life in the community he loved. James attended Harding High School and later built a distinguished career at Marion Correctional Institution where he worked for over 20 years. His dedication and hard work continued as he transitioned to managing fast food restaurants for the last 15 years. Known for his polite and respectful demeanor, James was a quiet but kind soul who always had a smile on his face. James had a deep love for the outdoors, spending countless hours fishing, working in the yard, and going on walks. He enjoyed watching boxing, drinking beer, and playing pool and darts with his longtime friends. His passion for playing chess was matched only by the joy he found in spending time with his many friends and family members. He is survived by his children, James Michael Mason III (33) of Columbus, Ohio, Jaimie Michelle Mason (31) of Columbus, Ohio, and Shaelynn Kaylee Delilah Mason (9) of Bucyrus, Ohio. James is also survived by his siblings, Michelle (Victor) Floyd, Maurice Mason, Moishi Mason, Dimitri (Stacy) Mason, and Nyota Mason, as well as his many beloved cousins from the SUM/Jones Family and numerous nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his ex-wife and lifelong friend, Cindy Brewer Mason, and his brothers, Richard Torn Mason and Alex Mason. James will be remembered for his warm heart, gentle nature, and the joy he brought to those around him. His legacy of kindness and love will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends. A service and celebration of life will be held at Mayes Community Temple, 801 Bennett Street. James Michael Mason Jr.'s memory will forever be a guiding light to those who knew and loved him.
