Gloria Jean “Jeannie” Baker, age 79, went to heaven to be with her husband and the Lord on January 30, 2025. Jeannie was born in Marion, Ohio to the late Edward Sr. and Hazel (Gorrell) Simmons on February 1, 1945. Jeannie married Herbert Baker Sr in 1962. Jeannie is preceded in death by her parents; husband Herbert Baker Sr.; siblings: Edward Simmons Jr., Patty Harris, Marilyn McCleary, DaLee Getz, Sandra Merrow, Michael Simmons and Cynthia Timmons; and granddaughter Kasi Baker.

Jeannie is survived by her children: Herbert (Amy) Baker Jr., Shawna (Jamie) Rank, Wendy (Jeff) Fox, Troy (Shelly) Baker; grandchildren, Kyle (Carrie) Witten sons and daughter, Kari Baker daughters and son, Heather (Nick) Johnson and sons, Brittany (Joel) Hause and daughter, Bailey Fox, Emily Alexander and daughters, James Alexander and son, Kylee (Austin) Baker-Rose and daughters; numerous nieces, nephews, and special niece Angie (Sam) Parsons. She was known as Mom and Grandma to many others.

Jeannie worked as the head cook at Ridgedale High School for 20 years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Marion. She was an honorary and lifetime member of the Ridgedale FFA. A member of The Women of the Moose and Eagles Clubs. In her younger years she enjoyed horseback riding, bingo at the Moose, playing cards with friends and family, camping trips, bowling leagues and attending the local fair & sporting events that her children and grandchildren participated in. Jeannie and Herb were quite the baking duo, they worked together to make some of the best and most memorable dishes. They hosted many family holidays. Jeannie never knew a stranger. She was so generous, thoughtful, giving and compassionate. Jeannie always put others before herself. A truly one-of-a-kind person. God broke the mold when he created her. She will be missed by all that knew her.

The family would like to extend A Special Thank You to the Parsons, Farley, Thiel, Crabtree and Neagles families for their continued love and support. Also, A Special Thank You to Tranquility Hospice and the caring nurses and aides. Memorial donations may be made to Tranquility Hospice in care of Affordable Cremation Services at 1701 Marion Williamsport Road East in Marion, Ohio 43302.

Visiting hours are at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marion, Ohio on Friday, February 7, 2025 at 10 am. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 11 am. at St. Marys Church.
