Gary R. Drake, 71, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the James Cancer Center in Columbus, OH on December 15, 2021.
He was born in Marion, Ohio to Roland E and Mary Jane (Olliver) Drake on October 29, 1950 who were farmers in New Bloomington. He was preceded in death by his father and an infant sister, Janice.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Jane (who is now 101 years old), his sister Patty (Tom) Crampton, and his devoted wife, Barbara Jane (Reames) Drake whom he married on June 21, 1990.
His children are Mike Wakely, Steve (Crystal) Wakely, Nikki (Dale) Globe, Joseph Drake, and Michelle (Ed) Mackey.
He deeply loved his grandchildren:
CJ (Lisa Herold) Dennis, Traci (Aaron Oldaker) Wakely, Ostyn Poe, Stevie Wakely, and Masyn Bradley. He also has many nieces, nephews and many extended family that love and respect him.
Among his passions were reading, and learning and talking to anyone no matter where we went. Gary was a very caring, friendly person who loved his church and friends deeply and will be missed by all.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 2, 2022 from 12:30p to 2:30p ET at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 1725 Marion-Edison Rd, Marion, OH 43302.
Affordable Cremation Services of Ohio has been entrusted with Gary's final arrangements.
