Gary Lee Shire, 73 of Marion passed away on Saturday April 28, 2018 at his home following an extended illness. Gary was born October 11, 1944 in Steubenville, OH to the late William and Dorothy (Hummell) Shire. He was married September 21, 1996 to Deborah (Lang) Shire who survives. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters SharonNorton and Cindy Shire.
Gary is also survived by children Kelly Shire Hunt of Palm Harbor Florida; Seth A. Shire of Mansfield; Joie Sellers of Mansfield; Sean P. Cooper of Cincinnati, OH; Tina M. (Garrett) Davis of Marion; and Rev. Eric (Mandy) Cooper of Frazeysburg, OH; grandchildren Camryn, Sierra, Logan, Kassie, Tristan, Alexis, Kyle, Noah, Brennan, Eli, and Patrick; brother David (Marlene) Shire of Mifflin; father and mother in law Norman and Mary Ellen Lang of Cardington; as well as 2 nieces and 2 nephews;
Gary grew up in the Mansfield and Ashland area, graduating from Ashland H.S. in 1962. He entered the service following graduation and served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years. Gary worked at General Motors in Mansfield for 31 years and then for 9 years in Atlanta Georgia where he retired in 2006. He has lived in Marion since 2012.
Gary was a friend of Doctor Bob and Bill W. since Oct. 1, 1981. Gary was founder of the Sons of God M.C., a Christian Motorcycle Group. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, country music, NASCAR, and shopping (Chuckle, chuckle). Most of all he loved the Lord and teaching others about His love for others.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday May 5, 2018 at 3:00 pm in the River of Life Community Church, Butler with Roy Livingston and Rev. Eric Cooper officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 pm until the time of the service. Full Military Rites will be provided following the service and the family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor's choice. Expressions of sympathy can be left at www.cremationservicesofohio . Affordable Cremation Services of Ohio, 1701 Marion Williamsport Rd. is assisting the family with arrangements.
