Fred Allen Keener, 85 of Marion passed away on August 30, 2017 at Marion General Hospital. Fred was born and raised in Marion, OH to the late George W. and Geneva (Hatcher) Keener. He graduated from Harding High School in 1950 following which he joined the U.S. Air Force, completing training in Colorado, and stationed in Bitburg, Germany for 3 ½ years. After the service Fred attempted various jobs ending up with training/driving sulky horses. He traveled various race tracks such as Lebanon, Chicago, Northfield, and Scioto. In between he would race in County Fairs, his passion was horses.
Fred was married to Helen Gouin in 1954 who preceded him in death. Surviving are three children from this marriage, Kathy Felongco of Texas; Judy Mondalto of MA; and Fred Allen Keener, Jr. of NH. In 1972 he married Elma Fosnaugh (deceased) and later Gerry Kight. He is also survived by one brother George C. (Ruth) Keener of Marion; three sisters Janet (Robert) Brown, Jane (Fred) Roth both of Marion and Marcia Keener of New Mexico. Two special friends Fred and Jane Fahrion and a special niece Amy Brown. Fred is survived by many nieces and nephews and relatives. He will always be remembered for his colorful personality.
