Elven E. "Shorty" Shade
May 5, 1925 — February 8, 2021
Elven E. S(Shorty) Shade age 95, of Bucyrus passed away on Monday Feburary 8, 2021 in Bucyrus. He wa born May 5, 1925 in Bloomville, OH to Russell C. and Edith (Beam) Shade. He married Betty J. Cox on June 5, 1948. They enjoyed 73 years of marraige
Along with his wife, survivng are four sons and a daughter: William (Peggy) Shade of Bucyrus, Richard (Regina) Shade of Nevada, Michael (Ruth) Shade of Huntsville, Kenneth Shade of Bucyrus, Mary Ann (Kevin) Bryden of Bucyrus. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren with one on the way, and a sister Doris Frankenfield. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Patricia Shade, daughter Phyllis Sack Waring, and brother Robert Shade.
Shorty graduated from Lykens High School class of 1943. He was US Army Veteran serving in WWII in Europe. After the army Shorty worked for local contractor Oren Cover. He also worked for Ryder Heil Bronze, Holtshouse & Zahn Plumbing & Heating, and retired from Kinn Brothers. Many people knew Shorty from his small electric motor repair shop that he ran out of his garage. Shorty was also a lifetime member of the Colonel Crawford post of the American Legion, Amvets and the V.F.W. Post 1078.
In retirement, Shorty and Betty enjoyed trips to Branson and traveling all over visiting various relatives. Together they also enjoyed almost biweekly trips to the Amish Country where they would also stop in Heine’s Cheese Chalet where the guys making cheese would always stop and step out to chat. He enjoyed woodworking and completed many projects for family and friends, including hundreds of his “Man in a barrel.” Shorty also loved all his ohio teams and rarely missed sporting event on TV. He also enjoyed watching the TV shows Pawn Stars and the Pickers, and in his recent years he was fond of napping in his chair.
