Donald L. Smith

Donald L. Smith age 91 of Marion, died at his residence on Aug. 17, 2021. He was born Oct. 13, 1929 in Marion to the James A. and Weltha A. (Wilson) Smith. He married his loving wife Bessie Ann (Seel) Smith on Feb. 21, 1953 and she survives in Marion.

Donald is survived by sons Kevin L. (Bridget) Smith, Columbus, Kraig L. Smith, Marion, two daughters Karin L. (Thomas) Davidson, Prospect, Krista L. Cuccio, Marion, 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and a great granddaughter on the way. He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Kathryn L. Smith who died in 1971 at the age of 14, sisters Jeannettte White, Polly Reagh and a brother Richard Smith.

Don was an ice man, delivering ice to Marion homes with his father, hence the nickname (Icy). This was from his teen years through 1951. He served in the US Army serving during the Korean War 1951-1953. He worked a a materials handler for 34 years at Marion Power and Shovel retiring in 1988. After retiring, his “job”was golfing, bowling and playing pool with friends at the Marion Senior Center.

A full military graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Fri. Aug, 27, 2021 at Caledonia Cemetery.
