Charles Stephen Merold, age 67 of Kenton, OH passed away October 23, 2024, at Kenton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born January 18, 1957, to Robert Merold and the late Donna (Shrock) Thompson in Akron, OH. Charles married his wife, Debra A. Payne, on December 22, 1984.
Charles is survived by his wife, son Brett (Katie) Merold of Galena, daughter Bethany Merold of Kenton, brother Byron (Kathy) Merold of NC, and his father Robert. He was preceded in death by his mother and brother Robert Merold.
Charles graduated from Woodridge High School in Peninsula, OH, and then earned a bachelor's degree at Hiram College. He was a German language teacher for over 25 years at North Olmsted Middle School and Kenton High School. Charles started the boys' and girls' soccer programs at Kenton High School, where he coached both soccer and wrestling. He was well-loved by the community for his contributions as a coach and teacher, prompting the Kenton High School soccer field to be named after him.
Charles attended the Kenton Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, where he served in the past as an elder and treasurer. He also was previously on the Board for Heartbeat of Hardin County Pregnancy Resource Center.
Charles loved Jesus. He loved his family, and he loved spending time with them, his friends, and his Golden Retriever named Emma.
A memorial service will be held at Kenton Alliance Church on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 12:00 pm. Condolences can be left online at www.affordablecremationservicesofohio.com. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Kenton Alliance Church, World Central Kitchen, or The Chuck Merold Scholarship Fund (c/o Mike Styer, 220 E.
