Prospect- Betty M. Slemmons of Prospect, died June 9th, 2024, at 8:00 p.m.
Betty was born March 19, 1934, in Marion, Ohio to Howard and Emma
Christman. She was a graduate of Harding High School in 1952 and upon
graduation she became employed at the Marion Power shovel until 1961.
During that time, she met Raymond “Gene” Slemmons. They married on
May 17, 1958 and were together for 66 years. Gene proceeded her in
death in 2023.
They raised three daughters on a farm outside of Prospect and was always
supportive of their school activities they were involved in as well as their
huge participation in the Marion County 4-H Club.
Along with raising her family, Betty continued to use her exceptional
secretarial skills working in the Elgin School District for 19 years in the
library and Secretary to the guidance counselor retiring in 1993.
She loved working with Jr. High and High School students, however, her
other source of joy and fulfillment came from working with infants. So she
began working at the Delaware Grace Brethren Church childcare center for
seven years until 2017.
Over the years, Betty also enjoyed spending time with family and friends,
gardening and refinishing antique furniture.
She is survived by 3 daughters Lori (Matt) Kentucky, Amy (Todd) Hagely
Tennessee, Beth (David) Eastwood, 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and
many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she is preceded in death by 3 sisters, Melba
Killen (Sunbury), Vena Sandridge (Morral), Rose Ledford (Atlanta) and one
brother, Craig Christman (Marion).
A public graveside service will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 11:30 am
at the Prospect Cemetery. There will be a luncheon directly following the
service for immediate family only.

Prospect or OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center; PSU Foundation; OSU
