Richard Allen Thorpe, 75 of Marion passed away surrounded by his family on Friday November 3, 2023 at Marion General Hospital following an extended illness. Richard was born April 6, 1948 in Marion to the late Edgar Allen and Martha Cathrine (Watson) Thorpe. He was married June 15, 1974 to the love of his life Wanda (Parthemore) Thorpe. In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by sons Andrew Thorpe of Upper Sandusky and Joel (Tammy) Thorpe of Marion; grandchildren Aiden, Abbigail, Logan, Abigale, Madison, Olivia, Lillian, Daniel, and Luke; brothers Charles H. (Barbara) Thorpe and Mark W. (Jodi) Thorpe; sister Sharon L. (Bill) Middleton all of Marion as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Richard graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1966 and retired from Whirlpool in 2004 after 38 years. During the years at Whirlpool he served from 1968-1972 in the U.S. Air Force.
Richard was a longtime Lead Guitar Player in the Marion area playing Country, Rock and Roll, and Blues. He was a member of the Bands TKO, Country Club and Shameless, and last with FOG.
Richard was fiercely loyal to his family and some of the words that may best describe him as a husband, father, grandfather, musician, and friend are “Loyal, honest, a force, loving and kind, a protector, secret keeper, a motivator, funny and serious as well as thankful and giving”.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 4:00 p. in the Grace Baptist Church, 1560 Marion-Marysville Rd. with Pastor Nick Worden officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 pm until the time of the service.
